Professional Learning
Provide professional development and training for all employees (board members, administrators, teachers, non-certified staff) to continually improve in all areas of our school district.
Objectives

  • 100% of senior students will successfully complete a work cooperative experience/internship to receive a .5 credit for this class.
  • Add a 'We Are Proud' item on our School Board agenda each month recognizing individual students, teams, and/or staff members celebrating our community's greatness.
  • All grade 10-12th grade students will attend James Valley and identify their Work Ready pathway in order to fulfill the North Dakota scholarship requirements upon graduation.
  • All juniors and seniors will complete the 25 hours of community service in a career aligned field to complete graduation requirements.
  • All senior English students will successfully complete a Capstone project to fulfill the North Dakota Graduation requirements.
  • Conduct grade level student meetings at the secondary level to introduce and teach our PB Standard for citizenship. Recognize students each month and post on our social media platform.
  • Develop visuals of our Code of Conduct, teachers conduct Passport For Learning walks to teach students our Code of Conduct.
  • Grade level meetings will be scheduled and implemented monthly at the secondary level with emphasis on student expectations, Choice Ready pathways, and team building. (Secondary Principal)
  • One staff meeting per month will be dedicated to using our Code of Conduct in our teaching, PB Standard, addressing behavior challenges.
  • Provide team-building opportunities for staff and students, recognize students monthly for demonstrating those qualities outlined in our PB Standard.
  • The secondary Principal and Superintendent will celebrate those seniors that make an academic and/or activities commitment to a 2 or 4 year post-secondary school.
Critical Initiative
  • Hire a counselor to implement a elementary 21st Century Citizenship curriculum to reduce. the overall number of student incidents of behavior.
  • Hire a full time Music/Theater arts teacher and Physical Education Health teacher to increase offerings across schools. Increase high school elective offerings, and add Core Support time.
  • Partner with the ND Personalized Learning Network to explore a middle level approach that focuses on differentiation, student choice, and student outcomes.
Critical Initiative
  • Create a professional development plan for teachers that meets the need of our district as a whole and is personalized for each teacher. Monthly Leadership Team meetings will develop this.
  • Have all teachers new to the profession be a part of a formal mentoring program (Secondary Principal).
  • Introduce the Danielson model for teacher evaluation, provide teacher education on domains, complete self-evaluation, and all certified staff set goals aligned with our strategic plan.
  • Schedule three professional learning walks(October/January/April) to collect big picture observation data on instructional engagement practices used in all of our classrooms.
  • Secondary teachers will be trained in how to provide explicit instruction how to incorporate Priority Standards into their daily lesson planning.
  • The Superintendent will form a District Improvement leadership team that will be responsible to analyze district data, identify critical initiatives, and develop a District Strategic Plan.
  • Train all teachers to use Catalyst nonverbal communication and student engagement strategies. Introduce, practice, and plan for incorporation into our daily instruction. One staff meeting/month.

Personalized Learning
Provide students with personalized learning opportunities.
Objectives
  • Provide students with personalized learning opportunities to tailor to their individual needs and aspirations.
  • Students in grades 6-8 will be identified for additional academic support based on the benchmark assessment and core subject performance.
Critical Initiative
  • A math and reading Core Support will provide instructional support for those identified students - 4 days a week - 30 min/day.
  • A weekly student advisory period will be scheduled, teachers assigned with emphasis on SEL, and Career Advisory.
  • Grades 6-8 core instructors will meet monthly to collaborate about students who have identified academic and/or behavior needs. that will extend into Core Support and Advisory.
  • Hire a full time non-certified staff member to provide academic support for our students in grades 7-12th. Person responsible will regularly monitor student progress, check in with student, set goals
  • Increase the number of high school in-person course offerings that are dual college credit and/or advanced core subjects.
  • Secondary principal, counselor, and superintendent will outline clear career pathways and align our secondary school to ND Choice Ready.
  • Superintendent, secondary principal, and counselor will meet with all sophomore and junior students to review their Plan of Study and guide their career pathway.

The Strategy Map has been created in collaboration with The North Dakota Department of Public Instruction and Cognia™.

All schools in North Dakota participate in a Continuous Improvement process. Continuous Improvement means examining a school’s current reality including demographics, culture, technology, finances, and academic progress, among many other factors. In addition, Continuous Improvement means looking into the future and predicting what may change – what will be different a year from now, or 10 years from now.

 

During the 2018-2019 school year, all schools in North Dakota participated in this Continuous Improvement journey. School personnel participated in training and collaborated with diverse stakeholders such as community members, teachers, parents and students to map out what the school’s priorities are, what the school’s objectives are and what critical initiatives needed to be implemented to achieve those objectives. This planning process resulted in a Strategy Map – a 3 to 5-year plan for the school.

 

It is important to note that the Strategy Map is a snapshot in time. It is documentation of what the school’s priorities were the past school year. In this case the Strategy Map below was captured and submitted on May 1, 2019. It is equally important to note that the Strategy Map below may have changed since its submittal. This is because priorities may have changed quickly depending on numerous factors. Factors can include, but are not limited to, a natural disaster, a high staff turn-over rate, or an influx or decrease of students.
