Academic Focus
Academic Focus: Garden Valley Elementary will focus on student academic progress and growth through PLC's, MTSS, GVC, and continuous improvement.

Innovation: Garden Valley Elementary will focus on innovative instructional practices to engage students in all areas through providing student voice and choice, project based learning, and innovation

School Culture: Garden Valley Elementary will focus on providing a safe, connected, and problem solving school family through social emotional learning, communication, Conscious Discipline structures.

Critical Initiative
  • Garden Valley will follow district guidelines to monitor student attendance and provide supports and interventions where necessary.
  • Grade level teams will meet weekly for a minimum of 60 minutes in PLCs to focus on the 4 essential PLC questions.
  • Grade level teams will meet weekly for grade level common planning once a week.
  • Increase our math i-Ready diagnostic scores in the 24-25 school year from 9% at or above grade level on the fall diagnostic to 80% of students at or above grade level on the spring diagnostic.
  • Increase our reading i-Ready diagnostic scores in the 24-25 school year from 19% at or above grade level on the fall diagnostic to 80% of students at or above grade level on the spring diagnostic.
  • Panorama intervention plans will be created for all Tier 2 and 3 students in math and reading.
  • School staff will meet in WINN Round Up groups at least once a month to design intervention groups in math and reading that are skills-based.
  • School staff will provide positive behavioral supports so that students may achieve important social/emotional and learning expectation outcomes.
  • Students will receive differentiated instruction with research and standards-based curriculum, classroom instruction by highly qualified educators who have high academic and behavioral expectations.
  • Teachers will meet weekly to design common assessments for students.
  • Teachers will provide lessons that align with state standards and specific learning styles.
  • Teachers will utilize district pacing and curriculum guides (GVC docs)
Critical Initiative
  • Classes will provide at least one room transformation aligned with grade level content to increase engagement and innovation in lessons.
  • School leaders and teachers will provide student voice and choice in learning.
  • Students will be given weekly opportunities to engage in STEAM learning through monthly STEAM challenges, weekly Makerspace time, as well as weekly scheduled Art and STEAM time as part of the schedule
  • Teachers will plan and implement at least one service learning project per year at each grade level that will integrate grade level standards.
  • Use of technology will include use of approved resources and apps, Chromebooks, Google apps, and Daily Paws Google meet announcements.
Critical Initiative
  • Each teacher will have at least 20 minutes of SEL time scheduled into their daily schedule with morning meeting and an additional 30 minutes per week.
  • Garden Valley classrooms will start their school days with a brain smart start Morning Meeting.
  • Garden Valley Elementary will hold at least one school family assemblies each month to celebrate the school family.
  • Garden Valley staff will be supported socially and emotionally.
  • Garden Valley teachers will participate in Conscious Discipline professional development.
  • Garden Valley will host at least 2 family fun night/engagement activities each school year.
  • Garden Valley will host book fairs each school year.
  • Garden Valley will provide an open house evening at the beginning of each school year.
  • Garden Valley will provide an opportunity for community members to be involved in the school through collaboration and communication.

The Strategy Map has been created in collaboration with The North Dakota Department of Public Instruction and Cognia™.

All schools in North Dakota participate in a Continuous Improvement process. Continuous Improvement means examining a school’s current reality including demographics, culture, technology, finances, and academic progress, among many other factors. In addition, Continuous Improvement means looking into the future and predicting what may change – what will be different a year from now, or 10 years from now.

 

During the 2018-2019 school year, all schools in North Dakota participated in this Continuous Improvement journey. School personnel participated in training and collaborated with diverse stakeholders such as community members, teachers, parents and students to map out what the school’s priorities are, what the school’s objectives are and what critical initiatives needed to be implemented to achieve those objectives. This planning process resulted in a Strategy Map – a 3 to 5-year plan for the school.

 

It is important to note that the Strategy Map is a snapshot in time. It is documentation of what the school’s priorities were the past school year. In this case the Strategy Map below was captured and submitted on May 1, 2019. It is equally important to note that the Strategy Map below may have changed since its submittal. This is because priorities may have changed quickly depending on numerous factors. Factors can include, but are not limited to, a natural disaster, a high staff turn-over rate, or an influx or decrease of students.
