Critical Initiative
  • Back to School Night
  • Communication with parents and stakeholders through newsletters and Midkota Messenger. Also updates are given through automated call system, Midkota Facebook page, and Midkota website.
  • Extended Day Program parent night. All staff, students and parents are invited to come and participate in these evenings.
  • Fourth Grade Living Wax Museum was held on April 4th, 2024. This is an opportunity for students to research, display and depict impactful historical and current day people.
  • Midkota Elementary participated in Kindness week, January 22-26, 2024.

  • Wednesday morning meetings are held with all teachers from 8:00-8:30. There is an informal agenda presented by the principal each week, and any concerns or plans for the week are covered there.
Critical Initiative
  • Accelerated Reader will be used as a support and motivator for student initiated reading.
  • Although our GEERS grant and ESSER funding has now run out, we supplemented the spring semester with money from the general fund. Next year we will utilize some Title 1 funds.

  • IXL website accounts used for 6th grade math to familiarize them with the website and support their individual learning with accountability. 5th Grade was added to IXL with ELA capabilities Fall 2022.

  • "Reading Month: In March students K-6 are challenged to take their reading to a new level. The whole school goal was 6,302,000 words read in March. Total came to:7,878,129. This is measured with AR. "
  • School-wide Title I services offered.
  • Students will be leveled and taught in a walk-to-read program K-6.
  • The Extended Day Program will run a summer program with tutoring available 3 days a week for the month of June.
Critical Initiative
  • A book study will be required yearly at the elementary school with the option of taking it for credit. In 2023-24 teachers requested 2 book studies - 1 each semseter.
  • Elementary and HS staff were given the opportunity to take Safety Care training in July. We had a full roster of 10 participants ranging for teachers to ancillary staff. This is a de-escalation PD.
  • Four Professional Development days were built into the calendar during the regular school year.

  • Teachers will be encouraged to attend professional development beyond what is offered by the school.
  • The Staff Work Days implemented last year were well received by staff. This year we spread them out to 3 a year, allowing extra chances for staff PD and work time.

Technology
Technology will be incorporated into the curriculum in such a way as to enrich student experience.

  • All students K-6 will have access to the STEM lab.
  • Increase iPad availability. New i-Pads have been purchased for grades K-3. 35 Chromebooks are utilized in grades 5-6 classrooms. Surface Pros were added in 4th grade and the lab has 16 for testing.

The Strategy Map has been created in collaboration with The North Dakota Department of Public Instruction and Cognia™.

All schools in North Dakota participate in a Continuous Improvement process. Continuous Improvement means examining a school’s current reality including demographics, culture, technology, finances, and academic progress, among many other factors. In addition, Continuous Improvement means looking into the future and predicting what may change – what will be different a year from now, or 10 years from now.

 

During the 2018-2019 school year, all schools in North Dakota participated in this Continuous Improvement journey. School personnel participated in training and collaborated with diverse stakeholders such as community members, teachers, parents and students to map out what the school’s priorities are, what the school’s objectives are and what critical initiatives needed to be implemented to achieve those objectives. This planning process resulted in a Strategy Map – a 3 to 5-year plan for the school.

 

It is important to note that the Strategy Map is a snapshot in time. It is documentation of what the school’s priorities were the past school year. In this case the Strategy Map below was captured and submitted on May 1, 2019. It is equally important to note that the Strategy Map below may have changed since its submittal. This is because priorities may have changed quickly depending on numerous factors. Factors can include, but are not limited to, a natural disaster, a high staff turn-over rate, or an influx or decrease of students.
